about
Hi, I'm John Brancato.
MA, LMHC-D, NCC, BCH
Licensed Psychotherapist & Board-Certified Hypnotherapist | New York City
I work with fellow humans on this wild journey of life, helping them cultivate self-understanding, build the courage to heal their wounds, and awaken their true potential. My approach blends psychotherapy, hypnosis, and other evidence-based methods to support mind-body-soul healing.
My Philosophy
I believe that each person is a whole system of mind, body, and soul, shaped by relationships, culture, and life experience. Healing is not about fixing or bypassing problems. It is about connecting with your inner wisdom, accessing your potential, and allowing your authentic self to emerge.
My work integrates:
- Mind-Body-Soul Orientation – supporting mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.
- Biopsychosocial Perspective – understanding how your body, thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and social/cultural environment shape your experience.
- Psychodynamic, Existential, Narrative, and Relational Therapies — exploring deep patterns in relationships, emotions, and life story to both discover and create meaning in your life.
- Compassion-Focused & Mindfulness Practices – cultivating nonjudgement, self-awareness, acceptance, and forgiveness to heal our wounds.
- Hypnosis & Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) – accessing unconscious processes to support meaningful, lasting change.
Professional Background
I provide integrative psychotherapy and hypnotherapy in private practice, working with adults in individual therapy. I hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Baruch College (CUNY).
Early in my career, I came to an important realization: talk therapy alone is not always enough to create deep, lasting change. That insight led me to become Certified, and later Board Certified, in Hypnotherapy through the National Guild of Hypnotists, allowing me to integrate experiential methods into the therapeutic process. I also hold an additional Certification in Hypnotherapy from the International Association for Counselors & Therapists.
My clinical experience includes supporting clients navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, and chronic health conditions such as autoimmune disorders, IBS, and chronic pain. I also work as a Clinical Supervisor, teaching and mentoring therapists through their internship and pre-licensure periods — helping them grow in confidence, skill, and authenticity.
In addition to clinical work, I speak and facilitate workshops for professional groups and organizations, and have presented at conferences on topics related to psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, and mental health.
Why I Do This Work
I do this work because I choose to be a force of radical Love and courage in the field of personal growth and change.
For me, therapy is about the courage to transform our wounds into Love, wisdom, and power—and to use that transformation to help heal others and contribute to a more Loving world. I absolutely love witnessing people evolve and consciously create the lives they want to live.
I am also, admittedly, a bit of a psychology nerd. I am endlessly curious about the human mind, spirituality, and the study of consciousness. Every person I work with deepens my understanding of our shared human experience and the profound mystery of being alive.
This work holds a special place in my heart because it calls me to practice what I believe is one of the most profound spiritual teachings: to love your neighbor as yourself.
Personal Mission Statement
I believe we are all one: fellow souls navigating the human experience together. When met with wisdom, care, and love, our capacity for growth is profound, often far greater than we imagine. That capacity has one prerequisite, which I continue to challenge myself to live rather than merely think: seeing with the eyes of Love.
My work is an offering of service, rooted in respect, compassion, and the courage to live authentically. I seek to create space for healing, joy, grief, and awe–honoring the full depth of what it means to be human, and helping people step into who they truly are.
I bring deep compassion, intuition, and presence to my work. I value authenticity, curiosity, and the courage it takes to explore the liminal spaces of our lives — the thresholds where transformation, self-discovery, and self-creation unfold.
This healing work is not a job for me. It is a way of living. I am committed to embodying what I invite my clients into: healing as an ongoing practice, Love as a center, and wisdom earned through the challenges we face. My personal commitment includes my own continuing healing work and a genuine willingness to be transformed by those I have the privilege of working with.
All healing work is a great honor — and the healing goes both ways. I am grateful beyond words for every client who has trusted me with their journey. Unknown to them, they have been healers to me as well.
